China Day 24: Last Class Excursion + Tianzifang

The last class excursion of the trip was to the Longhua Temple (龍華寺) and the Martyrs Memorial!

The Longhua Temple was very impressive and probably one of the most impressive Buddhist temples I've visited. I wish I knew more about Buddhism and the different Bodhisattvas, but maybe one day!

Lookin' angry and fierce. D:

It was this one's birthday the day we visited!
The rain made the Martyrs Memorial quite dreary, as we had to trek through at least half an inch to an inch of water that had collected on the tile floor on the way to the memorial itself.  An inch doesn't sound like much, but it's enough to be gross and sloshy. I think we had seen our share of museums by that time as well, not to mention this one was actually not that great of a museum either. :[ But nevertheless, something to see!

Interesting architecture!

Occasionally, I try to be artsy with photos

Same old, same old (museum displays)

Model of the memorial!

Not sure what this model house was, but it was kind of cool~

According to Professor, people pledge allegiance to the CCP in front of this flame!

The outside garden was pretty nice! Too bad it was so rainy.
We weren't going to go out because of the rain, but thankfully it let up towards the evening! My friend had looked up a legit-sounding Sichuan restaurant in Kat's guidebook, and he knocked on my door asking if I wanted to go and then we could walk to Tianzifang (田子坊) afterwards. We invited other people but they all decided to go to hotpot at the mall nearby, and no one wanted to go far because it was still kind of wet and drizzly. :[ But we two were troopers! So we still went. :)

Finding the Sichuan restaurant was super fast and easy thanks to Wakefield's directions. The food was very authentic! Not that I really know what authentic Sichuan food is I guess...but the mapo tofu (麻婆豆腐) was super spicy. D: Even though we told them to only do mild. My first experience with Sichuan food, to my current knowledge and recollection, was a good one though!!

So spicy!! o____o
Greasy! But good. :D

Food = conquered! Even the spicy tofu. >_<
Walked to Tianzifang, which took a little bit because it was actually a distance from the restaurant, but after asking directions a few times we still found it! Some of the stores were closed though, which was expected because it was almost 10:00 pm at this time. A lot of the restaurants were still open though so it still looked nice!

At last, we found it!
Still nice, despite the rain. :)

We went back after that, and then I ended up helping my friend fix his glasses. Omg those glasses were pretty impossible to tape together...We finally managed it plus the help of a toothpick for stability! I didn't photograph the final product, but his glasses were definitely broken at the worst places. Haha.

They were sad. :( RIP Wakefield's glasses!
